Specialty from the Bakery: Sugar Plum Bread

As you all might expect, the month of December is my favorite month due to the fact that its Christmas time. Christmas is all about giving, spending time with family and eating! Here is a great sweet bread that I will sometimes make for breakfast, but it pairs perfectly with afternoon tea. I make this at the bakery during Christmas season and it always sells out like hot cakes!

1/3 cup butter (melted)

1 cup sugar

1 tsp vanilla

1tsp baking soda

1 beaten egg

1/2 cup raisins

1/2 cup cranberries

1 tbs orange zest

Confectioners sugar for topping

Combine ingredients in a large bowl. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a small loaf pan or use a cupcake tin. Pour batter into dish and cook for about 20 - 30 minutes depending upon pan size. Remove from oven once golden brown. Top with a dusting of confectioners sugar then...

Scrumptious Breakfast Casserole

Saturday and Sunday mornings in the Kringle house hold are all about a big breakfast. Sometimes we make pancakes and sausages, waffles with strawberry's or our most favorite of all, breakfast casserole. Papa Kringle loves when I make this on really cold and wintery mornings because it makes you feel so warm and cozy.

Ingredients

  • 1 package frozen hash brown potatoes, thaw before use
  • 1 pound sausage or bacon
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 12 onces of cheddar cheese shredded
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 2 quart baking dish. Place the hash brown potatoes in the bottom of the baking dish. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook and stir the sausage and onion until the sausage is crumbly, evenly browned, and no longer pink; drain. Meanwhile, whisk together the eggs, milk, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, and pour over the potatoes. Layer with half the Cheddar cheese, the sausage mixture, and the remaining Cheddar cheese. Cover with aluminum foil. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour. Remove cover; return casserole to the oven and bake until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean, about 10 minutes. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

Pair it with toast and fresh squeezed juice and you will be eating just like the Kringles! Enjoy!

Party Punch

This is a classic holiday punch recipe, and I thought I would give it to you just in time for the holiday festivities to begin. I make this punch all the time for Little Santa's friends around the holidays and they all drink it right up!

Ingredients

1 quart cranberry juice

1 cup sugar

2 cups orange juice

1 cup pineapple juice

3/4 cup lemon juice

2 cups ginger ale

1 pint of orange sherbet

You can combine all ingredients prior to your party except for the ginger ale and sherbet, save those till right before.

One Sweet Treat

Holidays are the best times to fatten up a little bit. I always have hundreds of more orders during the months of November and December at the bakery. At home I keep more treats available as well.

For a perfect mid day sweet treat, try this puppy chow!

And no it's not for actually puppies, and thank goodness because it is delicious.

Ingredients

1/2 cup peanut butter

1/4 cup butter

1 cup chocolate chips

1/2 tsp vanilla

9 cups of Crispix cereal

1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

*If you prefer add more peanut butter or chocolate for your desired taste or try a different cereal like Cheerios or shredded wheat.

Combine peanut butter, butter and chocolate chips in a saucepan, heat and stir till thoroughly melted. Remove from heat, add 1/2 tsp of vanilla and stir. Place the 9 cups of Crispix cereal in a large bowl. Pour the peanut butter and chocolate mixture over the cereal and toss till evenly coated. Coat the cereal with powdered sugar then enjoy!
